Mental Health First Aid (10JAN-MHFA)

  • Lantra Wales, Royal Welsh Showground Builth Wells, LD2 3WY (map)

We are pleased to be working with the DPJ Foundation to bring you a series of Mental Health First Aid Workshops this January.

The DPJ Foundation is a charity based in Wales which supports the mental health of those in Rural and Agricultural Communities. The Foundation was set up by Emma Picton-Jones following a tragic event, the suicide of her husband Daniel in 2016.

Daniel was a farmer and agricultural contractor who struggled with his mental health. Emma realised that there was little awareness of poor mental health in agriculture and a lack of support tailored to the needs of the farming community.

She set up the charity to fill that gap, and DPJ now provide a 24 hour helpline and free counselling to those living in agriculture in Wales, and mental health awareness training across the UK.

Overview:

This session is designed to raise your awareness of mental health, you will learn: how common poor mental health is; how you can tackle the stigma that surrounds poor mental health; how to spot the signs of poor mental health in yourself or others; how to open up conversations with those who are struggling; what support is available to signpost people to in Wales and the UK, and how to look after your own wellbeing.

This session will also cover some aspects of suicide awareness and prevention. Hopefully you will find the session interesting and informative and will pick up some easy to use skills and tips to support friends, family and colleagues. This session is interactive and encourages conversation about mental health, so if you want to, you can share your experiences about mental health and ask questions.
