Environmental Awareness for Managers & Supervisors

This one-day training course is designed for individuals who supervise or manage forestry operations and are responsible for ensuring environmental protection on site.

The training scope for this course was developed by the Forest Industry Environmental Management Group (FIEG) in partnership with the FISA Forestry Works Manager Working Group. It is based on the CONFOR-published Guidance on Responsibilities for Environmental Protection in Forestry (GREPF) and aligns with the UK Forestry Standard.

  • The legislative and regulatory framework for environmental protection in forestry

  • Defined roles and responsibilities of duty holders, including Forestry Works Managers and Environmental Supervisors

  • How to commission and supervise competent personnel for environmental responsibilities

  • Key environmental protection areas and associated risks within forestry operations

  • Licensing, permissions, and consent requirements

  • Environmental standards, monitoring, and site supervision

  • Environmental incident response, reporting, and emergency planning

Other Information

  • The course will include visiting site in a forestry and woodland environment. The ground will be uneven so there will be a need to wear PPE suitable for outdoor visits appropriate to the conditions and weather.
